i paint, i draw, and i give stories a scent as artistic director of MOTH AND RABBIT. Berlin is home. what follows: a story, sixteen perfumes, faces in ink, and the rooms i remember.

how do you keep a moment?

i have always kept moments. in photographs, in rooms, in the way a place smells.
when someone i loved was gone, his scent stayed in the room. it kept him close longer than any photograph.
a scene from a film, translated into scent. it felt personal from the start.
if a scene could become a scent, maybe my own memories could become one too.
sixteen scenes i couldn’t let go of, kept in sixteen bottles.
i see the world through bipolar weather.

a climate

not a diagnosis. an atmospheric condition.

it changes colour, sensation, and the way memory moves through the body. my work comes from this shifting climate.

inside the weather

this work is not looking for balance. it is learning how to stay.

my paintings, drawings and scents don't illustrate bipolar disorder. they hold its weather: manic voltage, depressive quiet, tender equilibrium, and the fragile brightness in between. i ask one question: how can an artwork let us live inside the feelings that once broke us?

the rabbit: a duracell bunny. the moth: tattooed on my hand in london, at the start of that chapter. together, they became the name.
today, i feel well. good care, good food, rest. my family. my partner. all part of my recovery.
travelling brings new rooms, new light, new people into the story.
a room. a city. a moment i’ll want to remember. i’m still collecting.
every scent is a moment i chose to keep. thank you for stepping into mine.

MOTH AND RABBIT, co-founded with a business partner. Berlin and Paris. each scent begins as a story: a scene, a work of art, a relationship, the way we live together. the bottles stay plain; the humour stays in.

the starting point is never a fashion for a note. it is a scene, a painting, a tension between people. the rest is restraint.

some feelings have colour. some colours breathe.

i draw faces, often in one line that never lifts. ink, graphite, sometimes colour. they come out of bipolar weather, when the inner climate turns without warning. each one is an attempt to find a place for the self.
